MC Escher: Sphere with Fish (1938) - S

Mini-bulb with interlocking fish based on the original MC Escher wood carvings. The 3D museum replica has a diameter of 6 cm and comes in a gift box. The ball with fish is a nice gift for lovers of art or mathematics.

Background information on the design

Because the spherical shape has no beginning or end, this was the ideal shape for Escher's "infinite systems".
This ball with fish was also his first, and personally most favorite, ball relief.

Maurits Cornelis Escher visualized mathematics in such a way that both layman and professor were (are) captivated by his works. He knew how to portray mathematical ideas from which professional mathematicians had just emerged or even needed years of work. This allows us to see Escher as one of the largest, if not the largest, persons at the interface of mathematics and art of this century and beyond. It is therefore all the more striking that he did not understand anything about mathematics and that he did not see what drove other artists to their work. He was actually just a good graphic artist with a preference for woodcuts, a good geometric insight combined with a great interest in mathematical ideas and a strong zest for work.
