(1834-1917) Painter and sculptor Edgar Degas became famous for his paintings and sculptures of ballerinas. Our collection includes ballerina figurines. The most famous is the little dancer aged Fourteen. Today it belongs to the most expensive sculptures. It shows a young student of the Paris Ballet School.  The almost life-size original sculpture had Degas modeled in wax-an unusual material for its time.  The image is in the National Gallery of art in Washington.
