The Secret Clasping Hands By Rodin
Two graceful hands together, a reflection of the majestic Gothic architecture. The two hands are inclined towards each other; the empty space between them, the residual form, has something of a Gothic vault.
Rodin was fascinated by the expressiveness and symbolism of hands. In his famous statue 'The Cathedral', for example, the hands reflect the majestic Gothic architecture. These two graceful hands form a preliminary study for "The Secret", a marble sculpture in which two right hands clasp an abstract, rectangular "secret". (1906-1909)
