Unique bronze sculpture of an African woman "Natascha" with two children, one on her arm. The statue was made in Burkina Faso according to the "Lost Wax" method. The clothing and headdress are patinated in brown. Bronze sculptures from the workshops in Burkina Faso are usually no longer than 27 to 38 cm. Most are even shorter. This sculpture is therefore a special find for its length alone.

Bronze has been cast in Burkina Faso for centuries; it is an old, traditional and important craft.
The art of bronze casting is not learned in a school, but the craft is passed on - usually within a family - from master to student. These are mainly male bronze casters belonging to the Djermée tribe.
Bronze casting method
The sculptures are made according to the so-called "lost wax" technique. The original sculpture is made of wax, which is covered with clay. The clay is then baked so that the wax melts and drips out of the mold. the mold for the image, which is then filled with source The resulting image is partly matted with copper oxide, which creates the beautiful color.
