WALL CLOCKS

WALL CLOCKS:

Unique wall clock designs made by the Carneol Glass Studio, which is  founded in 1996 by the Hungarian artist / designer Mika Valtonen.

The clocks are unique, each one is hand made, using different fusing techniques. Glass Fusion is a 4000 years old technique invented and used during centuries by the Mesopotamians and Egyptians. Now the Carneol Glass Studio is re-using the original techniques again.

Nowadays, sheet glass, crushed and powdered glass is used to create unique designs. The cold glass is arranged, stacked, and stained with special dyes and Enamels. Then the resulting glass design is then carefully placed into a furnace where it is slowly heated up to temperatures between 850 and 950 degrees Celsius.
High temperature fuses the layers together. After this process of careful annealing, followed by slow temperature decrease, a piece of glass is created with a surprising variety of colors, transparency and texture.

Designer Mika Valtonen creates this dream glass clocks in traditional European design.
Light effects from colored glass has always been a source of fascination. Natural light on the clocks results in a delightful kaleidoscope of color mutations.

The clocks are individually handcrafted and assembled in the workshop of the Carneol Glass Studio. The clock mechanism itself is a reliable running gear from Germany for an accurate time display.
