How to put up a Walltastic mural:
Read on for some great tips on preparing and hanging the mural.
How big is the finished mural?
The XXL kit comes in 12 pieces, making it really easy to put up. The whole wall mural, when complete, measures 8ft by 10ft (2438 mm by 3048 mm) and every separate piece is 20 inch by 49 inch (508 mm by 1219 mm). The smaller XL kit comes in 8 pieces.
There are two types Walltastic murals – one which is applied with no overlap (butt-jointing) and another that is applied with overlap (joining edges are marked with an approximate 6mm overlap, so make sure you know which one you have before you start applying to your wall.
Before you start
Check you have all panels and make sure you’re happy with the colour match and print quality. When all the panels are as they should be, mix your (normal) wallpaper paste and decide where you’re going to place the first panel. This will affect the overall look of the finished job so take your time.
Don’t wait too long between the installation of each panel or you won’t be able to line them up properly.
The best way to make sure the first panel is in the best place is to draw vertical lines on the wall using a pencil, a spirit level and a plumb line. When you know where you want to place your first panel it’s time for the wallpaper paste.
It’s best to use ready-mixed wallpaper paste, but standard wallpaper paste will work just fine.
Apply evenly to the back of the panel and allow the paste on all panels to soak for one or two minutes. Be aware that as each panel soaks up moisture from the wallpaper paste, it’s common for a wet panel to be 1.25 cm bigger than a dry panel. Trim the edges carefully after it has dried.
Do the whole wall in one job
You need to finish hanging all panels before taking a break, otherwise you run the risk of them falling out of alignment.
